学校介绍

普渡大学西拉法叶校区（Purdue University, West Lafayette）是一所历史悠久，享誉世界的研究性公立大学，有政府特准的土地、海洋和空间使用权，历来以优良的教学质量和适中的收费标准闻名世界。该校于1869年由约翰·普渡捐资、印第安纳州划拨土地建造。西拉法叶校区是主校区，也就是通常所指的普渡大学。

地理位置/气候

　普渡大学占地18726英亩（西拉法叶主校区2474英亩、普渡研究园591英亩、试验用地及其他校区1万4千余英亩）。现有教员3,000人，在校学生39,228 人，其中本科30,779 人，研究所8,147人。 　　普渡大学所在的西拉法叶横跨Wabash河，是个纯朴安静的大学城。该市交通便利，距该州首府印第安纳波利斯约65英里，约1小时车程；距芝加哥约100英里，约2小时车程。美国铁路 Amtrak 每天都有列车经过此地前往芝加哥或是印第安纳波利斯。因为地点十分接近芝加哥Chicago，因此在资源共享及信息上，不比芝加哥大学差。

知名校友

邓稼先，核物理学家、中国科学院学部委员（现称科学院院士）。中国“两弹元勋”、两弹之父，中国核武器理论研究奠基人。为中国原子弹、氢弹原理的突破和试验成功及其武器化，以及新的核武器的重大原理突破和研制试验，均做出了卓越贡献。1948-1950年在该校留学，1950年获物理学博士学位。

Purdue University is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. West Lafayette and its neighboring city Lafayette boast a low cost of living. This makes finding housing on a graduate stipend/paycheck easier. Purdue's Off-Campus Housing division maintains a Landord and Property survey for your use. Purdue offers a few on-campus housing options for graduate students. On-campus housing is very popular so be sure to apply early. Purdue Village: Apartment-style campus housing for students with families. Two single same-sex graduate students can also share a furnished one-bedroom apartment. Roommate matching is available. Students from over 60 countries call Purdue Village home. This diversity creates an exciting global community in which to live, work, and learn. Purdue Village is easily accessible to campus and shopping. The apartments are located on the southwest side of campus and include a setting with yard space, mature trees, and playgrounds. PRF Residential Housing: PRF Residential, a division of the Purdue Research Foundation, is responsible for the rental and maintenance of approximately 315 apartments and houses close to campus. Contact Information: (765) 496-6245. Off-Campus Housing If you are interested in off-campus housing, consider both West Lafayette and Lafayette. Lafayette is directly across the river from West Lafayette. Many Lafayette apartments are less expensive than those in West Lafayette, and some are within walking distance of campus. Because the availability of parking permits may depend on how far you live from campus, you should familiarize yourself with Purdue's parking regulations for students.
